She works closely with her husband, Richard Maddux, who composes music which supports spiritual expansion, relaxation and healing. His beautiful music can be heard on the CDs offered on this website.

BACKGROUND

Mary’s long career has taken her through studies and work in both conventional and alternative settings. Her first formal training was in counseling. With an MS in clinical social work, she began her career as a counselor in mental health and school settings. She soon saw the limitations of the conventional approaches utilized in the clinics in which she worked and began exploring alternative approaches.

Mary began the practice of meditation, and immediately saw its potential for personal growth and healing. She left her counseling work to devote herself to intensive study and practice of meditation in the Vedic tradition of India. She taught meditation for many years and continued to learn a number of advanced practices.

Her meditation studies led Mary to the study of Ayurveda, the science of health originating in ancient India. Her first experience with hands-on healing was in 1986 when she was trained and worked as an Ayurvedic therapist both in the US and India. She also began to explore other systems of healing and metaphysical thought in order to enhance her work, always seeking to find the universal truths revealed through all systems.

In 1995, Mary started to work with subtle energies through exposure to the work of Roman and Packer. She graduated from their Awakening Your Lightbody course in 1996, soon returning to counseling to apply her experience with meditation and the use of subtle energies for healing to that field. As a hospice counselor, she was introduced to hands-on energy healing by a chaplain. Seeing its value for supporting healing on all levels, she studied Reiki and Healing Touch and was certified in Healing Touch in 1999.

Energy healing became her main focus for some time, and she introduced it to the hospices in which she worked. She also established a private practice and began teaching energy healing. She developed a series of workshops entitled “Essential Energy Healing”, incorporating principles from her experience with meditation and emphasizing intuitive development. She taught energy work and spiritual healing through apprenticeships and mentoring as well as formal classes. Her CD, Everyday Energy Healing: the Hands-on Healing CD contains the processes she used in her introductory workshops.

Mary began recording her guided meditations at the request of students, with Richard adding a musical backgrounds for the meditations. This was the beginning of a new direction for Mary’s work. Coming back full circle to her roots in meditation, she has been able to use her knowledge of healing, subtle energies and counseling to create guided meditations which are profound and transformative.

Mary and Richard’s first CD, The Ease of Being, was originally recorded and distributed to a handful of people, by now it has sold thousands of copies. The overwhelmingly positive response to this CD inspired Mary and Richard to create more CDs and to create their popular Meditation Oasis podcast. Currently they are developing iPhone/iPod Touch apps which provide a wonderful platform for their work and reaching more people. Visit the Meditation Oasis website to explore Mary’s current work with meditation.

“I’ve been on a path of self-discovery and healing all my life. My path has taken me through many different studies, and along the way, I’ve played many roles. All of those roles have emerged as part of my work on myself. I see everything that I do as a dance between myself and the person I am working with. We are both learning from each other. We are teaching each other. We grow and heal together.”

    Hi Mary,
I have been seeking assistance to incorporate meditation and a greater level of spiritual awareness into my life. I have never ‘formally’ meditated before, but somehow realize that I desperately need it, the stillness; healing; peace; resolving of issues etc is what my being craves.

I will sit in meditation for the first time today and will start with your Breath Awareness Meditation first. I have read your website from top to bottom and am really looking forward to experiencing what you so generously teach and share with others.

I would like to thank you in advance and will let you know how it went for me.

    Thank you!
    Greetings
